A form of mental grounding can be reciting the alphabet or a favorite poem slowly. A physical grounding experience can be as simple as standing barefoot on the earth, running water over your hands, or deliberately connecting with nature. Using soothing self-talk as a means to regain control by means of kind statements such as “I am in my safe space. I got this. I can do this.”
Choose a grounding technique that works for you and practice it regularly so that when the need arises you can calm yourself without losing yourself or becoming unhinged.
